Exeter Eagles

Exeter Eagles Ladies Basketball team will be entering a Division 2 Ladies National League Team next season starting in September 2010. (We will be training over the summer).

Our National league section will be set in the South West (so far less travelling than it used to be). We have also required use of a very good and cheap Mini Bus with full ‘Stereo’ and it works!

As it stands the furthest we go north is Cardiff and East to play Solent Stars. Both Taunton and Plymouth are in the League as well.

Several senior players will be returning to the area and we have some outstanding younger players. Some of the best the Exeter has produced, to supplement the side.

The Exeter area has without doubt the capability to run a very successful Ladies National league side with several excellent teams and individual excellence. I will stress that this will not affect your loyalty to your current team. We would encourage you to continue to play as much as possible.

We will train two times a week with games at weekends. But will also understand that you may be playing for your current side and will review each situation sympathetically.

So if you think you are good enough and are currently playing to a high standard, please contact me on 01297 560163.Or E-mail porky1958@yahoo.co.uk for a chat.

Poppy back in the fold!

Poppy Whewell has been named as the Exeter Eagles ladies basketball captain. I was very happy when Poppy said she wanted to play again. At 6’2’ she is a huge asset for the club. Poppy is just a fantastic Athlete. Tall and exceptionally mobile. I was shocked when I saw how high she could jump! We are also hoping that a few others are starting to return from University to support a very talented junior programme. The building will continue all season towards our entry into the SW Div 2 women’s National league next season.

New season  2009/10
Sorry about not keeping this up to date but it's taken ages to sort out computer problems. I'm rubbish!

I hope to keep this up to date! Starting with some great news ‘Hot off the press’ Georgina Paul has just made the U16 European girls squad. Those who know and have played against her will know what a terrific player she is.  She has dedicated herself to this target and I’m proud to say she is one of the best players to come out of the Exeter Programme. She joins Rachel Hopkins in the squad already!

Kash Low and Shaylee Moore are also going for England trials on the 13th Sept. 2009 in Nottingham. Both 5’11’ both great players.

With Flick Mansbridge and Katie Gardiner also in the U16 Development programme, things have never been so good for Eagles Girls Basketball.

Our team/squad next year is the strongest we have ever had. Both in the National league and Ex and Dist. Lauren Shawyer is back to terrorise Defences, how she scores the way she does is beyond me? Has to be one of the biggest talents for her age in the Country. Many old players have returned, 6’2’ Poppy being to most notable. She is also going to be Club Captain this season.

The squad boasts over 8 players over 6’0’ tall and I’m getting neck ache at time outs and training session!

Looking forward to the new season!

Eagles first game of season 2008/9.
The Eagles exeter and District league team play their first game this Monday 29th Sept. Against the Women Police at Middlemoore. Tip 7.15pm.
New Coach 'Tilly Gush' takes control of her first senior game. However she will be surrounded by experienced players and we hope she will enjoy her new roll. She will also continue the club policy of using the younger players as well. Good Luck Tilly!
27 Free throws on the trot!
Coach Henman was £20.00 worse off this week when Junior player Emily Dunn hit 27 free throws on the trot in training. The next level is 50 straight and if she gets this, the Coach will have to shell out again!...Credit cruch  Ha!

Girls in U16 National Squad.
Four of the Exeter Eagles U16 Ladies National League squad are currently attending National team training with the U16 England Squad. Georgina Paul, Rach Hopkins, Emily Dunn and Lauren Shawyer are working hard to achieve the top level for their age in Basketball.
Flick Mansbridge and Annie Corcoran are also being asessed by the coaches. Both girls are nearly 6ft tall and in year 9 at school! Coach Henman said, 'Both of these girls are improving every week it's a pleasure to see!'
