The match took place between Devon Peelers and Newton Abbot Pacers, both have had a resurgence in form since the Christmas break, during the season both shared the spoils and this was the chance for one of the teams to win silverware for the season.
Devon Peelers started off quickly, and with captain Gemma RANDLES finding her range and the quick break with Jaz HODGES they were looking good, Becki WHITE was looking impressive for Newton Abbot Pacers and at the end of the quarter Peelers had a narrow 17-15 lead.
The second quarter was more of the same, and then Peelers introduced Millie ROBERTS which added another bow to Peelers’ attack with her 3 point shooting, for Pacers Becki WHITE was again their main threat, at the end of the half Peelers had a 33-28 lead.
Whatever was said in Pacers half time talk had the desired effect, from Peelers being a free-scoring team they now struggled to find their range, luckily Holly GOODLEFF found her range as without her 6 points they would have been all at sea as Pacers scored again and again through almost every player in the team and took the 3rd quarter 12-21 giving them a significant lead.
The final quarter beckoned, who would stand up, the answer was a clear Peelers who refused to lose this game, and with baskets shared around their team including the bench players they actually won the final quarter 23-2 taking the match 63-51. The points difference on the final score seemed significant but in reality, either team could have won this contest – but this year it was Devon Peelers who took home the silverware.
