The Men’s Plate Final took place between last time’s winners and Division II Champions Newton Abbot Pacers, and North Devon who finished 3rd in Division II but had recently seen an impressive run of results including one over 1st Division QE Crediton Chargers.

If North Devon were going to win this contest they would have to find an answer for Gareth LAWS and Tom WOODS in the Pacers side, the two of them have been destroying teams all season and would be a tough ask as they have an impressive 3-point and in the paint armoury between them.

Sure, enough as the match started LAWS immediately sank a 3, followed up by a Tom WOODS ‘in the paint’ 2, and then LAWS just took control, in a quarter that Pacers won 22-7 he scored 19 points and no matter what they tried they couldn’t contain him – North Devon looked shell-shocked at the break.

As the 2nd quarter started North Devon managed to start to get a foothold in the match, but despite scoring 13 points themselves and controlling LAWS a bit, the rest of Pacers now started to find the basket, with baskets being spread around between WOODS and BEST especially, half time came and they were 49-20 up, and the match was surely won already.

Credit to them though, North Devon were not going to be kept quiet and they re-grouped and found the basket consistently themselves, so much so that they took the 3rd quarter 17-20, but the damage had already been done.

Despite a spirited 4th quarter Pacers ran out winners 84-57 and Gareth LAWS duly elected MVP.
