This was a match up between Exeter Spartans and Plymouth City Patriots, Patriots were going for the first stage of a double with 3 important matches in a week, but Exeter Spartans featured in this and one of the league games and could prevent them in both.

The first quarter was a close run game with Taylor LAMBERT excelling for Spartans and Jordan SZMIDT for Patriots, the quarter ended with Patriots having a narrow 11-10 lead. The second quarter however was completely different as Patriots took control of the game and outscored Spartans 12-5 leaving them with a comfortable 8 point lead at half time.

If Spartans were going to get anything from this match they needed to start chipping away at the lead in the 3rdquarter, VARELLHES hit a couple of her trademark 3’s with the rest of the team chipping in, and Spartans had managed to claw back 3 points of the 8 point deficit and had put themselves back into contention.

Out came the teams for the 4th quarter, we were looking forward to a close game but Patriots had other thoughts, and immediately set about extending their lead with MVP Annette COOK leading the line, a press defence was leaving Spartans with no room to manoeuvre and Patriots were not going to take their foot of the gas and Spartans seemed to be devoid of ideas to start their scoring – the final quarter was so one sided with Patriots outscoring their rivals 21-8 and winning the match 58-40, the first part of their season’s silverware was complete.
